What is VMSS?
Vehicle Modification Subsidy Scheme (VMSS) provides funding on a variety of vehicle modifications including minor modifications such as hand controls, and major modifications such as lowered floor conversion, hoists and permanent ramps.
To be considered, you will need to be assessed by a prescribing Occupational Therapist (OT) or a VicRoads Accredited Driver Assessor who will determine the most appropriate and safe modification.
The following equipment & modifications are funded by VMSS:
- Conversions of vehicles for wheelchair access
- Ramps permanently secured to vehicles
- Specialised lifters, carriers and trailers for wheelchairs
- Modified driving controls
- Specialised seating
- Air conditioning for people with thermo-regulatory conditions
- Wheelchair restraint systems
- Oxygen cylinder restraint system
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for VMSS you must be a Victorian Resident, living independently in the community with a permanent/long term disability and/or frail aged as described in the A&EP guidelines and VMSS Guidelines.
What happens when my assessment is done?
Once your assessment is complete, your healthcare professional will send your application and supporting documents to SWEP electronically on your behalf.
What happens when the application has been processed?
Once your application has been processed SWEP will contact you to let you know what happens next.
If funds are not available immediately the application may need to go on a waiting list.
